Backflow Testing

Backflow Testing “Call us and forget about it!”

Ohio requires most businesses and residential/commercial sprinkler systems to have the backflow tested annually. If not tested annually, service could be interrupted!! With The Underground Detective having over 20 years of experience, we can test and rebuild your backflow device(s) to keep you in compliance.

-What is a backflow device?

A device that is installed to protect the drinking water form coming in contact with a questionable contaminant. When installed correctly and operating properly, it will prevent contaminants from entering the potable water supply through back-siphonage.

-What is back-siphonage?

Back-siphonage is the reversal of normal flow in a system caused by a negative pressure in the supply piping.

-Why do I need a backflow device on my lawn irrigation system?

A possible cross connection exists between the potable drinking water and an unknown source through the lawn sprinkler heads. Contaminants from fertilizer, animal feces, pesticides, etc., can be back-siphoned into your potable drinking water through the irrigation heads.

-Does this really happen?

Yes! There are documented cases of cross connections incidents throughout the United States.

-Why does the backflow device have to be tested yearly?

Any device that is mechanical may fail and must be regularly checked and tested. The manufacturer recommends that testable backflow devices be tested yearly. In addition, The Ohio Basic Plumbing Code states that backflow devices must be tested at least annually.
